New Tennis Courts
WERA secured a total grant of £93,000, equally funded by London Marathon Fund and Viridor Credit Environmental Co. to renovate the disused tennis courts.
Work on the reconstruction of the disused tennis courts started during the first week of September 2009 and was completed in November 2009. Merton Council undertook the project management.
3 new courts were constructed which remain open throughout the year and are free for the public to use. In order to compensate for the vegetation loss 200 tree whips were planted just behind the courts.
Stephen Hammond – MP for Wimbledon, officially opened the new tennis courts.
